Here’s a shot of common sense, courtesy of the San Francisco Examiner: Americans are finally getting a good look at the man in the White House. They’ve been thrilled by his speeches, love his kids and almost desperately want to believe he is who they voted for. It turns out, however, that he simply can’t tolerate disagreement. In President Barack Obama’s view, those who disagree with him really ought to just shut up.

Sometimes people respond to posts, and I wonder if they’ve bothered to read the post they’re responding to. Case in point, this comment on the previous post about the Obama administration’s response to the ridiculous misinformation spreading about health care reform. So from your article, you agree that Obama’s effort to spy on citizens is bad, as Bush’s effort was. Why don’t you call Obama out for his actions ? Aren’t they both in the wrong Where to begin? I did not say the Obama White House was spying on Americans or asking Americans to spy on each other, because it’s not .

Buried in this CNN article regarding Powell’s thoughts on the race controversy surrounding Professor Henry Gates is a very interesting comment on his ideas about the future of the Republican party.“If the party is going to succeed in the future, the advice I’m giving to my Republican friends is you’ve got to find some way to reach out and draw moderates and independents more toward the right so that we can build a party that will win.”Indeed, that’s the million dollar question: How do you attract

I cannot believe the Financial Times agreed to run this lead : President Barack Obama reminds me of Felix the Cat. One of the best-loved cartoon characters of the 1920s, Felix was not only black. He was also very, very lucky. And that pretty much sums up the 44th president of the US as he takes a well-earned summer break after just over six months in the world’s biggest and toughest job.

Meghan McCain is a monumental idiot. All of you knew that already, I’m sure. But as if her other dalliances into idiocy haven’t been enough, she’s really hit the motherlode with this one. She trashes conservatives and Republicans for not being “moderate” enough, and then complains that she gets called a RINO , and also complained that the Secret Service is too overprotective, and none of them are cute. Aww. She complains that the GOP needs to be “cooler” and more “pro-sex”.

After the premiere of Ashton Kutcher’s Spread (see the trailer here ) at Sundance earlier this year, tongues started wagging across the Internet. After all, the movie centers on a freeloading hipster, Nikki (played by Kutcher), who sleeps with wealthy, successful women in order to maintain a privileged lifestyle. But Spread isn’t just about a younger guy’s penchant for “cougars” — though we see plenty of action between Kutcher and older co-star Anne Heche.

America may not be as stupid a country as sneering liberal elitists like Bill Maher think. Despite a relentless media campaign to ram the global warming hoax down our throats, people are too smart to keep falling for it : Recent surveys show Americans cooling to global warming, and they’re even less keen on environmental policies they believe might raise power bills or imperil jobs. … “Right now, Americans are more concerned about the economy than the environment,” said Frank Newport, editor-in-chief of the Gallup Poll.

Despite the fact that Limbaugh has not apologized for his comments and is continuing to compare the Obama White House and the Democratic Party with Nazis, many in the media don’t consider it newsworthy and haven’t condemned it. And more important, journalists don’t show any signs of believing that the episode tells us anything about the radically unhinged nature of the right-wing media in this country today. That story’s just a non-starter. Period.

The President of the country whose seal is emblazoned on your correspondent’s passport took some heat from the right during his 2008 presidential campaign when his bride, Michelle Obama, said, “for the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country because it feels like hope is finally making a comeback.” The statement was far from a spontaneous gaffe: It was very smart politics and from the moment it happened I marveled at the genius of David Axelrod, the Obama advisor who I suspected had orchestrated it.
