Sarah Palin’s talk about a “death panel” was just another in a long series of her public and dark lies. She is not alone in this, however. The right has been inventing all sorts of lies about proposed health care reform, as well as rolling out thugs and hooligans to shout down honest debate. That’s not even mentioning the racist and bigoted talk that also infects the dark side of health care reform opposition. The good news is that proponents of health care are not letting themselves be bowled over by these lies, intimidation and hooliganism.

BEIJING (AP) — A Chinese trade official said Wednesday that a U.S. complaint about China’s tire exports smacks of protectionism and appealed to Washington to avoid taking steps that might harm relations. The government of President Barack Obama is …

We’ve been watching the wave of rowdy hecklers at meetings across the nation, it was only a matter of time before they hit our state. They obviously got the memo about being disruptive. Too bad they didn’t get the memo that they’ve been bought and paid for by Washington lobbyists bent on keeping hardworking Americans under Big Business’ thumb. Amid heckling and boos Tuesday night, North Carolina held its first congressional health-care forum since the issue has become a national flash point.

Camillle Paglia goes on what Edward John Craig refers to as “an ugly and un-American” rant against Obamacare after expressing her continuing support for Barack Obama in her first Salon paragraph. Although I substantially disagree with her reasons for supporting Obama on foreign policy issues, I can’t help but find her points against Obamacare [...]

Aside from the issue of whether the congressional “town hall” has outlived its usefulness as a way for politicians and the public to interact, there’s an important underlying question in those confrontations over health care reform now playing out. Do they represent an incipient a 1994- or 1980-style backlash against Obama? To most of us on the outside, the town-halls-gone-wild appear to reflect the intense feelings of a relatively small group of people who are very badly misinformed about what’s actually happening in Washington.
