BY JUDIE KABERIA – US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Thursday that Kenya and America should remember the 1998 US embassy terror attacks to renew their resolve against terrorism. Speaking when she laid a wreath at the site where 213 people died eleven years ago, Mrs Clinton said the two countries should continue partnering to ensure such attacks are not repeated. “This is an opportunity to renew our resolve and to ensure that we do all that we can so that these attacks don’t take more innocent lives in the future,” she said.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been sworn in as president of Iran despite the reality he may well have been the loser in the recent presidential election in his nation. The situation has created a dilemma for most western nations who would prefer if a reform candidate had gained the presidency of Iran. The French, Swedish and British ambassadors attended the inauguration ceremony while other nations refused to even send the customary congratulations which is offered to a new ruler.

As the health care debate continue to heat-up CNN is feeling its fair share of the warmth. They are being criticized for not airing a commercial that is critical of the health care industry: “The labor-backed Americans United for Change, a top White House ally in the health care wars, tried to book time on CNN and MSNBC for the ad , which hits the insurance industry for wanting to preserve the status quo and levels harsh criticism at insurance giant Cigna’s CEO, Ed Hanway.” The ad is below,

Posted today on the Real Clear Politics blog by Tom Bevan: After 6 Months, More View Obama’s Presidency as a ‘Failure’ Than Bush’s A rather surprising finding from the newly released CNN poll. Question three on the national survey of 1,136 adults (which includes an oversample of African-Americans) asks, “Do you consider the first six months of the Obama administration to be a success or a failure?” Thirty-seven percent (37%) said they believe the Obama administration is a “failure,” while 51% consider it a “success” and 11% say it’s still “too soon to tell.” An identical question was asked of the Bush administration in an August 2001 CNN/Gallup/USA Today survey.

Remember that photo of Obama that looked like he was maybe smoking a joint? You know, this photo of a jaunty, young Barack Obama? ( Published as part of a Time Magazine photo essay after the 2008 election) Well the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws has appropriated the photo, without permission of the photographer, and made an amusing poster . The folks at the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws got there first.

Four and a half months ago, 17 unjustly detained prisoners in Guantánamo wrote a letter to President Obama asking for their release. In the secretive world of Guantánamo, however, nothing is straightforward, and it has taken over four months for the letter to be cleared by the government’s censors and sent on to the White House. The men who wrote the letter are Uighurs, Muslims from China’s Xinjiang province, who had fled their homeland because of Chinese persecution, and had been sold to US forces by opportunistic Pakistani villagers during the US-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001.

The grants for electric vehicle development announced yesterday in Wakarusa by President Barack Obama are only a fraction of what’s needed to make the U.S. competitive in the field. PepsiCo will spend $7.8 billion to buy its two biggest bottlers, including PepsiAmerica, which operates three bottling plants in Indiana. The Duneland School Board has approved a $5.9 million bond issue to fund an addition to Liberty Elementary. Jasper County is tweaking ambulance service boundaries.
