Urging someone to engage in ’serious self-reflection’ doesn’t strike me as a massive insult. In its content , you could hardly come up with anything milder, unless it were praise; serious self-reflection is more or less the default need of every adult human being. Both Martin Peretz and William Kristol , however, are put out by Barack Obama’s cheek in suggesting serious self-reflection to… Israel. Well, OK, maybe despite the mildness of content, it’s the fact of the advice itself that offends – the fact of feeling free to say to other mature adults that they should have a think.

Ever since I got home from work today I’ve been excited for one thing and one thing only: President Obama’s throwing of the ceremonial first pitch of the MLB All Star Game. Admittedly, this is a pretty lame thing to be excited about, but it’s a Tuesday night and I have work tomorrow. Would Obama fire a strike a la George W.

We told you a couple days ago about Major League Baseball honoring 30 fabulous people from across the United States for their work in their communities. Last night, at the All-Star Game , these 30 inspiring people made an appearance so Americans could be inspired by their contributions to society. Accompanying these “ All-Stars Among Us ” was a video featuring all 5 living Presidents, which is a HUGE deal because something like this has never been done before – it really shows how important service has become in America.

Following the tradition of FDR, Nixon and Ford, Barack Obama took the field at Busch Stadium Tuesday to throw out the first ball to Albert Pulhjos to start the 80th All Star Game in St. Louis. Wearing jeans and a White Sox jacket (”my wife thinks I look cute in this jacket”), he looked a little less than Presidential. In fact, he looked like a guy plucked out of the crowd to compete in a Three Strikes for a Lexus competition between innings.

Back in 2003, Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon made it clear that the time was right for peace:The Israeli Prime Minister reiterated his readiness to recognise a Palestinian state and to make “painful concessions” in return for “real peace”. But he hedged on whether he would evacuate Jewish settlements. That reluctance prompted the Palestinians and the Israeli left to question his sincerity. The victory of Anglo-American forces in Iraq, Mr Sharon said in an interview with the Haaretz newspaper, had created an opportunity that did not exist before.

Roy Halladay couldve talked about starting the All-Star game. Or about possibly getting to meet President Barack Obama. Instead, once again, the Toronto Blue Jays ace was inundated with questions about a potential trade. Its definitely different. I cant say I anticipated it working out this way, Halladay said Tuesday, a few hours before the first pitch. Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi recently said he would listen to trade offers for the 2003 AL Cy Young Award winner.

As the hearings get underway for a second day of questioning, it appears Republicans aren’t the only ones who think Sotomayor has been less than candid in her testimony. The Center for Reproductive Rights, a leading abortion rights group, this morning is calling for more questions on abortion, with President Nancy Northup complaining that Sotomayor “said little about her own understanding of the issues underlying Roe and the Court’s subsequent decisions on abortion rights.”And the Constitutional
