Middle East: Things Look Catastrophic but It Will Work Out, Why I’m Optimistic By Barry Rubin*, GLORIA CENTRE Every day dreadful things happen in the Middle East and in the echoes of that region—diplomacy, news coverage—in the West. Yet things are by no means as bad as they seem. Precisely because a lot of what happens simply doesn’t reflect reality, ultimately the material effect is minimized. “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing,” warned Edmund Burke.

As predicted by neoconservatives, Poland continues to seethe with resentment at Barack Obama’s betrayal of their country: Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has declared his country ready to take part in a revised US missile defence plan. Mr Tusk told visiting US Vice-President Joe Biden that Poland was “ready to participate”.

As reported yesterday, Sarah Palin will make her Oprah debut on November 16, one day before her already best-selling book Going Rogue is released to the public. We, also noted yesterday that the lack of Oprah’s presence in during the 2008 political season (she removed herself after publicly declaring support for Barack Obama ) was particularly felt after Sarah Palin entered the race and it became clear she was perhaps not equipped for the role of Vice President.

Poland signs up to new US shield Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has declared his country ready to take part in a revised US missile defence plan. Mr Tusk told visiting US Vice-President Joe Biden that Poland was “ready to participate”. Poland will now host a small US base equipped with short-range missiles. It replaces a much bigger system favoured by former President George W Bush. Mr Biden insisted the new system was better than the old version and would mean “better security for Poland”.

Congress passes Guantanamo bill The US Congress has cleared the way for the government to continue to transfer inmates held at the Guantanamo camp in Cuba to the US but only to face trial. The Senate vote, which follows approval in the House last week, clears one of the hurdles facing President Barack Obama as he seeks to close Guantanamo. But the measure does not allow those convicted to be imprisoned in the US nor permit those cleared to stay. Mr Obama has set a 22 January deadline for closing the detention centre.

Jack Shafer has just published a fascinating behind-the-scenes article, “Barack and Anita Diss Roger Ailes.” Shafer, in writing about press coverage Obama deemed insufficiently favorable, writes this: Obama’s hatred of the conservative press fully manifested itself when he became president and immediately assigned his communications director Anita Dunn to hammer the media in a series of remarks. But there is no denying his special animus for Fox, which he regards as overtly conservative in its news coverage.

By BEN LANDO Iraq Oil Report ISTANBUL – Disputes over how to manage Iraq’s oil sector, and who gets to call the shots, have plateaued at a tense level for the past three years, but the top oil adviser to Iraq’s prime minister is optimistic agreements will be made after January’s national elections. “The objection has become much, much, much less,” Thamir Ghadhban said at a press conference following meetings between the ministry and companies looking to bid in an upcoming oil deal auction.

At the rate this administration is going, the term “Nixonian” may soon be replaced “Obamian” The Washington Post opinion piece lead off with a headline that said, “Obama’s dumb war with Fox News.” Then it got even tougher. There’s only one thing dumber than picking a fight with people who buy ink by the barrel — picking a fight with people who don’t even have to buy ink. The Obama administration’s war on Fox News is dumb on multiple levels.

i first came here because i was looking for a political forum to actually discuss topics. (Gamefaqs forums aren’t good for that, unfortunately). But no discussions take place here. The right makes a post bashing the left, and vice versa. And topics that start coherent and mature boil down to a flame fest. So why do you post here knowing your not changing anyone’s opinion, and intelligent debate is non-exsistant. Do you guys enjoy flaming each other?
