On Friday, the White House unveiled the first official Obama family portrait. The photo was taken by celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz , who took the picture on September 1st sitting in the Green Room of the White House. In recent months, Leibovitz followed the President on the campaign trail, took a series of portraits for Vanity Fair , and was seen following President Obama in the White House on October 1st. The picture shows President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama , along with children Sasha and Malia in a casual, smiling pose.

The NYT reports: “Democrats lost a big test vote on health care legislation on Wednesday as the Senate blocked action on a bill to increase Medicare payments to doctors at a cost of $247 billion over 10 years. The Senate majority leader, Harry Reid, Democrat of Nevada, needed 60 votes to proceed. He won only 47.

We’ve seen a lot in the last few days of folks on the right side of the aisle thanking President Obama for resurrecting the Republican Party.  These people are suffering from fever dreams.  The GOP is less popular than it has been in 10 years! Thirty-six percent of people questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Friday say they have a favorable opinion of the Republican Party, with 54 percent viewing the GOP negatively.
