[ Maybe it would help if we all saw the leaders of this country (including Mr. Obama, of course) receive their flu shots on national TV.  Let's start with the "royal family" and then move on to the members of Congress and the Senate.  And let's not forget the members of the CIA, Homeland Security, etc.  It would be inspiring to watch these leaders and their families -- esp. the small kids and pregnant mothers -- all line up to get vaccinated.  What better way to reassure a wary public that a little mercury and squalene won't hurt anybody.

A new CNN/Opinion Research poll shows that President Obama’s approval rating has continued to fall thanks principally to a large drop in support from independents: WASHINGTON (CNN) — A majority of independent voters disapprove of how Barack Obama’s handling his job as president, according to a new national poll. Fifty-three percent of independents questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Tuesday say they disapprove of how Obama’s handling his duties in the White House, with 43 percent in approval.

A dozen wind and solar projects have just snagged hefty grants from the Department of Energy — not enough to cover the entirety of their projects, but enough, the agency hopes, to get investors to pony up more capital. Among today’s big winners is Spain’s Iberdrola Renewables, snagging close to $300 million of the nearly $503 million announced today . Iberdrola’s Peñascal Wind Farm in Sarita, Tex. won the largest single grant in today’s group, for more than $114 million.

I saw a litle tiny brief in the paper today that said: President Barack Obama reduced next year’s pay increase to 2 percent from 2.4 percent because of an ongoing national emergency and serious economic conditions. That’s sacrifice? That’s responsible governing? No way. While most employers have enacted a pay freeze at minimum, and often coupled it with mandatory furloghs and pay cuts, our fearless 9:05 to 4:55 government workers are going to have to muddle through with only a 2 percent automatic pay increase this year.
