Good morning. I want to thank the Secretary-General for organizing this summit, and all the leaders who are participating. That so many of us are here today is a recognition that the threat from climate change is serious, it is urgent, and it is growing. Our generation’s response to this challenge will be judged by history, for if we fail to meet it – boldly, swiftly, and together – we risk consigning future generations to an irreversible catastrophe.

He also played down stories that racism had a part in people’s opposition to his policies – noting he was already black long before being elected. The US president has been making a blitz of appearances on television as he bids to persuade Americans on the benefits of his controversial healthcare reform plans.

Rule #2 says to thank your friends for linking to you by linking to them back. And I have some very nice blog-friends who say kind things about the stuff I write. In blog parlance thanking them is known as the Full Metal Jacket Reach Around (FMJRA). If you’ve seen the movie you’ll get the joke.

Sen. Robert Byrd was taken to the hospital Tuesday morning after he fell in his home in an incident not deemed serious, his spokesman said. Ambulances and fire trucks raced to the home of the 91-year-old West Virginia Democrat, the longest-serving senator in U.S. history. He was taken to a hospital but has not been admitted. “Byrd apparently stood up too fast this morning in his home and fell down,” Byrd spokesman Jesses Jacobs said. “To err on the side of caution, his caregiver call an ambulance.
