We’ve long been fans of the Dell Mini 10v for Hackintosh purposes, it’s small, quick, attractive, and can be obtained for surprisingly cheap in the $200 range . It looks like the rest of the blogworld is catching on to this little beast of a MacHack Netbook, Gizmodo has an excellent write up on installing Snow Leopard on the Dell Mini 10v, it’s definitely worth checking out.

October 30, 2009Motorola Droid: The Early ReviewsVerizon and Motorola have been pumping scores of hype into the release of the Motorola Droid, yet another smartphone hailed as an iPhone killer. After spec and picture leaks and premature Web site launches, the Droid has finally received the hands-on treatment, and so far the acclaim is near unanimous.PC World gives the Droid a 90 out of 100, saying it’s a “powerful new competitor” in the smartphone wars that “certainly lives up to its promises.” So what are other reviewers saying?THE GOODDisplayCNET calls the Droid’s 3.7-inch display “positively gorgeous” in its 4 out of 5 star review.

Yes, I’m talking about the likelihood of Apple actually introducing a tablet-like device, along with new support for new MacBook Pro models in the latest seed of 10.6.2. Here’s where the confusion seems to be for the blogosphere (via Ars Technica ): Apple SVP of worldwide marketing Phil Schiller recently implied to Gizmodo that there would be no more new products announced this year. Indeed, it would make logical sense that this is it for 2009, as we are soon entering November and the beginning of the holiday season.

You have your choice of iPhone/iPod battery packs, but Kensington has thrown one in with its new $70 charging dock. The Kensington Charging Dock with Mini Battery Pack comes with its own mini battery that will charge next to your iPhone or iPod, so you will never be short on precious juice. According to Kensington, it will give you an extra 30 hours of music or 6 hours of video on an 3rd generation iPod Nano, and an extra 3 hours of talk time on your iPhone. Pretty neat even if it is just another iPhone dock.

What are you going out as this Halloween? If it’s geeky, we want to see it. There just might be a free pizza in it for you. All you need to do is drop a photo in the comments of you actually wearing the costume. And let me just say, if it’s Star Wars, it had dammed well better be unique somehow (like the Lego Star Wars costumes pictured above). And no, we don’t need to see a pic of you as a kid in the ’80’s dressed like your favorite Ghostbuster—keep it recent.

At the Taiwan Broadband show Ericsson showed off it’s take on a portable computer of the future. It uses a pico-projected screen and laser-projected keyboard. At least you won’t make any noise while typing. Pictured above is just the prototype. Ultimately they would like to house it in a spider-leg tripod design. It would have wireless broadband connectivity and of course a battery. Laser projected keyboards by 2020? We can do better than that by 2020 can’t we? I think so. [Gizmodo]

Photo courtesy of ThinkGeek October 28th, 2009 – Following ThinkGeek’s other ridiculous t-shirts ( 1 , 2 , 3 ), is the “Electronic Rock Guitar Shirt”. Perhaps they could have come up with a less descriptive name in the interests of brevity. It plays power chords (even though the site says it plays major chords), has buttons on each fret mimicking the big E string, and a magnetic pick that you use to strum your power ballad. To rock out to 11, a tiny “amp” is included that you can clip onto a belt.

Anthony Toth has built a vintage Pan Am first-class cabin in his garage. The setup includes almost everything fliers in the late 1970s and 1980s would have found onboard: pairs of red-and-blue reclining seats, original overhead luggage bins and a curved, red-carpeted staircase. Mr. Toth, a 42-year-old global sales director at United Airlines, has spent more than 20 years on his elaborate recreation of a Pan Am cabin, which includes a few economy-class seats, too. All told, Mr.

Once again, in a bit of news that seems to have been overshadowed by the Verizon Droid announcement — we have some good news in regards to yet another upcoming Android handset. That handset I am referring to is the HTC Eris and it is being reported that it will be priced at $99 upon launch. But to be a little more specific, that is $99 on contract, and there has not been any mention of whether or not that price comes with any rebates.

[Gizmodo] Net Neutrality: Worst Case Scenario It’s not an inevitability, but let’s say net neutrality doesn’t work out and ISPs can dish out net access as they please.

No one likes uninstalling bloatware, trialware, and craplets from their freshly unboxed PCs. Microsoft finally acknowledges this by skipping the unnecessary third-party software in Microsoft retail store PCs. That’s truly great, but they should do a little more than that. I realize that the key reason behind all that preinstalled junk is to make a profit. After all, there are people who’ll spring for subscriptions because of anti-virus nagware or purchase a full version of an application after playing around with the trial.

To promote the launch of Windows 7 in India, the launch team used 7000 dominoes to create a nifty Rube Goldberg-inspired animation. Unfortunately, it did require some user input for things to run smoothly. Video after the break.[via Gizmodo] Via Techeblog

It can suck having to listen to the sounds blasting from other people’s computer speakers. But no matter how bad the music or how annoying the game sounds, I don’t think anyone’s gotten stabbed over the issue until this kid. Fourteen year old Matthew Gorzynski was stabbed in the chest by fifteen year old William Gorzynkski , his own brother, after the two argued over “a noisy home computer.” Apparently the boys had it out about music volume in the past, but this time ended with second degree murder charges.

There is no one definitive Windows 7 guide—it’s a sprawling OS with a decades-long legacy, so nobody can cover it all. But with our powers combined , you’re in good hands. First Things First We covered everything we could in Gizmodo ’s official eight-chapter mega-guide , so hit that up first. It’s a hearty first course, and it’s got everything you need to know—what’s new from Vista, why it’s worth the upgrade, and how to get started with it.

Scientists from Wake Forest University and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory have created an army of digital ants and their superior officers, digital sergeants and sentinels, to search out viruses, worms and other malware. The new antivirus software could provide better protection while freeing up valuable hardware.
