The Atlantic Monthly named Freeman Dyson a “ Brave Thinker ” for the “ contrarian view” he’s taken on climate change. They tout his quote, “I like to express heretical opinions. I know I keep posting Jon Stewart clips about health care but I find the entire thing so frustrating and watching Stewart is really one of the only things that makes me feel better. He does such a good job at pointing out all the problems with those who oppose the public option and providing us with facts and humor while doing so.

Though he’s officially listed as an Independent, since losing the 2006 Democratic Senate primary, Joe Lieberman has referred to himself as an “Independent Democrat.” But as a war hawk and an opponent of a public health care option, many wonder if Lieberman maintains any tendencies of a Democrat at all. The context (nutshell version) is that the new book Superfreaknomics has a chapter on climate change that is scientific gibberish . Not simply wrong, but error riddled nonsense. One of authors was on The Daily Show last night for some slow ball questions, with a nerf ball … and no strikes called … with Stewart both pitching and catching for Levitt.

So I watched it. First, it was interesting that he came accompanied with a (nice) Jewish woman activist for peace. But it came across as awkward: as if the Palestinian could not be brought before the audience without the approval and blessing of an American Jewish person. As if to say: he is OK. This one is a human being. Secondly, the tension was felt as soon as Barghuti began to speak: when a member of the audience yelled: liar. And Jon Stewart, who repudiated and mocked Rep.

George W. Bush , motivational speeches , and $19-an-office admission fees all add up to an irresistible cocktail of political snark. It’s no great surprise that Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart each took a sip of it, ribbing the former president over his participation in the Get Motivated! motivational speaking tour, which has been his first significant public appearance since he left office.

A few zionists in the audience had predictable responses, but the two or three disruptive petulant hasbarats were shown the door and far more in the audience were audibly supportive. Despite the fact that support for a public option is at an all time high with nearly half of the country in favor of it, cable news reporters and politicians on both sides of the aisle continue to say that the Senate has caved to the “left wing” by including the public option.

by Ryan Jones It ended Tuesday, and regardless of the opening-night outcome, I have to imagine LeBron James is happy as hell to have another season of basketball to distract him. What a uniquely f*cked-up summer this man just endured. I use “endured” with some hesitation. LeBron is hardly a reluctant celebrity, and he does plenty — and did, this summer, especially — to draw the spotlight to himself. He’s a big boy and understands criticism comes with the shine. No sympathy required or requested.
