MagMe Puts Full Scans of Magazines in Your Browser – Free – Lifehacker . Web site MagMe displays full scans of popular magazines directly in your browser—covering the gamut from computer and lifestyle mags to art, fashion, and photography. And they wonder why print media is dying? I’m at the point that I think these print media publications need to stop killing trees anyway.  This is what a Kindle could be for, if they’d jump on board with Jeff Bezos.   For your subscription, and a 2 year agreement (or whatever is appropriate, I use 2 year agreement because I’m used to that with cell phones) you get a Kindle that will wirelessly get you the latest issue when it’s available.

New Podcast Now Airing: This Week in Google (TWiG) | Smarterware . Gina Trapani, formerly of the awesome site Lifehacker , and now of the equally awesome Smarterware , has teamed up with Leo Laporte and Jeff Jarvis for a new This Week in Google podcast.  If it’s got Leo’s name and (ahem) trademark on it, it’s guaran-damn-tee. In fact, there’s only one show on TWiT that I just can’t get into.

Whilst browsing the many on-line shops you may have seen Sun Jars, a solar powered decorative light in a jar that uses a small solar panel to charge it’s battery that allows it to light up at night, usually with a coloured glow giving a nice tranquil subdued light source for any room or garden.  Fancy making your own?

Reader UltraBE’s Windows desktop turns mundane system statistics and application launchers into a lookalike for the popular Left 4 Dead video game. It’s not for everybody, but it’s definitely loads of fun. Just like the previously mentioned Halo 3 HUD desktop , this desktop is created with a number of Rainmeter configs, as explained by UltraBE: Survival clock: local time clock, pc uptime, ‘I Hate…’ quote, skin version.

You registered a domain name and set up the free Google Apps Standard Edition to get Gmail, GTalk, GCal, and GDocs running behind it. Now, take a look at some advanced settings Google Apps (for your domain) makes available. What the what? Sometimes we refer to all of Google’s regular, free, public products as “Google Apps,” but today we’re referring to the product formerly known as “Google Apps for Your Domain” as just plain “Google Apps.” (Note to Google: Come up with a clearer naming convention.) Give this flavor of Google Apps a domain name you own—like yourfamily.org or example.com—and it puts Google services behind it.

Click here to view everything on one page. About the Tips Box: Every day we receive boatloads of great reader tips in our inbox, but for various reasons—maybe they’re a bit too niche, maybe we couldn’t find a good way to present it, or maybe we just couldn’t fit it in—the tip didn’t make the front page.

Windows 7 is out if you haven’t heard, and people are rushing to get their pre-orders, back up their data, and upgrade their computers. Some of these people are upgrading for the first time since Windows XP, and others are people with systems that came pre-loaded with Vista but are cashing in their upgrade coupons to get a copy of Windows 7. Me? I’ve been running it since it was available as a beta and an RC, and while I’m actually remarkably happy with my Windows Vista x64 gaming system, I’ll be upgrading to Windows 7 myself very soon.

Seriously!  Start forgetting things and stop remembering. Development on Task.fm started about a year ago – let me take you back there to a time where I was unorganised, had no motivation and my memory was shocking.  Here’s the story of how and why Task.fm was born. “Anthony don’t forget to call such and such.  Its already been a week and shes expecting your call.”  2 minutes later and i had forgotten I was meant to call such and such.  Even after writing down that I needed to “remember to call such and such” I had forgotten to look at the piece of paper.

Ask anyone who runs the eye-catching Plex media center on their Mac about Snow Leopard, and you might see them wince. A new update fixes that painful Apple Remote incompatibility, and also improves audio for those without 5.1 sound systems. The most important fix in Plex 0.8.3 is the successful integration of a Candelair driver to prevent the Apple Remote from launching iTunes, FrontRow, and other apps while a user’s simply trying to navigate their Plex media center.

Speaker: Elizabeth Burns Technology and pop culture drive each other. Librarians sometimes assume that people using technology like smart phones in libraries are wasting time, both theirs and ours, but we really don’t know how they are using tech. Librarians need to learn how to use the tech that their user community employs, so don’t hinder your staff by limiting what tech they can use while in the workplace. Libraries also have the responsibility to inform users of the services and technology available to them.

Google has just announced GoogleMaps Navigation for Android platform smartphones like the G1 Phone and more.  I think this is going to be big in the next few years and definitely take a big chunk out of the current on-board GPS market. I think this is actually good for the GPS navigation business since more competition means lower prices and better GPS systems.  Even now, I see all these outdated GPS systems on new cars, they simply can’t compete against even my Palm Pre’s (or Blackberry’s) GoogleMaps.

Installing Windows 7jknipp.com

It’s been awhile since I posted last. Most of my life has been pretty mundane and nothing really postworthy has occured, aside from getting a few job interviews. Actually, shortly I should be hearing back about a second interview as a PHP developer for a fairly local eLearning company. I have just recently taken advantage of a deal to get Windows 7 Professional [upgrade only] for $29.99. I bought it and spent the rest of the night downloading. By the time I woke up, the download was done.
