Thus the Tablet now gets our undivided attention. So we dive in headfirst into the speculations and leaks.

I know, I know, that headline’s a dirty trick. But this is still pretty cool: TechCrunch got ahold of a shot of the Apple Pen Mac , a stylus-driven tablet concept circa 1990 that eventually collapsed in favor of the Newton. The Pen Mac was an inch thick, used the same screen as the Mac Portable , and didn’t merely exist in a lab—this is a real working model pictured here, not just a pretty (for the time) case.

October 28, 2009; Conshohocken, PA, USA: Cyclocross racers at MAC’s two days of UCI and amateur racing in New Jersey this weekend will need to pay closer-than-normal attention to what they’re wearing. Beacon Cyclocross in Bridgeton New Jersey will see racers trying to avoid the Jersey Devil while rushing through the woods on Halloween, while promoters of the following day’s Cat and Kitten Cross presented by HPCX in Jamesburg New Jersey have a few suggestions about what to wear to a wedding reception in the middle of a cyclocross race.

photo: www.gizmodo.com Let’s all hope the rumors of Apple’s tablet computer are true or else there will be a lot of tech writers who will have to eat their lunch. The much rumored and speculated “iTablet” may make a debut sometime early next year, possibly in January. If such a device exists it will be one product launch that may out do all the others in recent memory, including the iPhone. Let’s hope Apple does not disappoint.

In a comment to Spot’s earlier post on the subject of the settlement of the flying imams’ lawsuit against the MAC and Katherine Kersten’s bilious reaction to it, MNO wrote about the procedural posture of the case at the time of the settlement. The “procedural posture” of a case sounds arcane and boring, but as MNO points out, it is critical in understanding what a judge’s ruling means: its context. The ruling that Katie is so exercised about was a ruling on the defendants’ motion for a summary judgment, arguing, in effect, that the flying imams didn’t have a case worthy of taking to trial.

There was a time in this world when young people were frequently slightly ashamed of being bigger than average fans of horror, science fiction, fantasy, and especially comic books. I, personally, wasn’t embarrassed …and I paid a price. Those days may be over. In any case, the capacity crowd that showed up for Spike TV’s Scream awards, largely in costume and largely dramatically over- or under-dressed for a nighttime outdoor show, seemed more like club kids and less like the kind of uber geeks who become entertainment bloggers and film critics and stuff like that.

News: Phil Schiller: Apple’s “Holiday Lineup Is Set” (The Mac Observer) In case you were holding out for one more thing, Apple vice president of worldwide marketing told Gizmodo that the company’s “holiday lineup is set.” That means there will not be any more product updates or introductions before Christmas, or more likely, sometime in 2010, which itself means customers don’t need to put off those holiday purchases any longer. Apple has finally removed the curtain scaffolding that was in place to hide the construction of their new Upper West Side Manhattan Apple Store location. Of course, in typical Apple fashion, the unveiling leaves even more mystery to unravel, as the entire face of the new store is covered in a vinyl curtain, along with an “Opening soon” message. Luckily, we shouldn’t have to wait much longer to get a look at the newest store, which many are saying will be the most impressive in the entire Apple Store chain.

Microsoft is doing almost everything right with Windows 7. Rock-solid engineering, energetic marketing, great outreach to hardware and software partners. Microsoft bloggers actively share information and take feedback. Collectively, the company does everything you would expect from a smart company nearly a full decade into the 21st Century . One group at Microsoft seems to be stuck in 1999. For some inexplicable reason, the technical team responsible for packaging and manufacturing and selling Windows 7 has decided to clam up about a product it is selling by the truckload.
