According to Mashable , “On October 29, 1969, the first two nodes of ARPANET were interconnected between UCLA’s School of Engineering and Applied Science and SRI International (SRI) in Menlo Park, California.” In normal person speak? It’s the internet’s 40th birthday! This is a momentous occasion. Let us take this time to revel in the wonder of this day with some beautiful things the internet hath wrought: The fun of “warning” a friend on AIM in middle school.

From AdAge : Bob Dole famously cried “Where’s the outrage?” during his presidential run against Bill Clinton. I’d like to revise that, with a twist, when looking at some recent internet video viewership numbers: I’d add in “where’s the analysis?” to “where’s the outrage?” My outrage began when I read a Multichannel News story claiming that Univision’s web series “Vidas Cruzadas” had become one of the “three most-watched online properties ever,” with 2 million video streams served.

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 29, 2009 — While it is true that recessions take jobs, this one is creating an evolution of business on the web. Staff reductions are forcing businesses to migrate to the web to communicate with their clients even when they are unavailable. Ordinary businesses are rushing to fill the gap left behind when no one is there to answer the phone. Thankfully, the solution is more elegant, consistent, reliable and cost-effective than the staff you replaced.

Realtors use Twitter. Shocked? You shouldn’t be. Real Estate Agents are voracious consumers of new communications technology. Proving that out, several agents turned out for Twitter training given by Karen Goodman ( Arch City Homes blogger and premier realtor), and me. Agents were aware of Twitter and it being a social network. A few of the real estate agents were already members, as well as being Facebook members. Universally though, they were using only the basic web sites and none was using Twitter on a regular basis.

You’re already careful about what you say on Twitter, right? I mean, you read my advice on reputation management, so you know not to go around tweeting defamatory tweets in the name of “fun.” Right? Good, then I never have to worry about you getting in as much trouble as Larry Johnson of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Deep fried chocolate cake, tacos wrapped in pepperoni pizza, the “fat bastard burger” … these are all reasons that America has an obesity problem, and the basis for a recent Internet phenomenon – the blog called “ This Is Why You’re Fat ” (TIWYF) that showcases excessive junk food items. The blog recently joined a host of other Internet memes by scoring a book deal, and is celebrating its release by holding a very cool (and fattening) promotion in New York City today where fans of the site can enjoy the type of food items that make up TIWYF’s content.

It was inevitable: a big time pro athlete has been suspended for comments made on Twitter, and the price tag is a big one. The player is Larry Johnson of the Kansas City Chiefs and the cost of his offense is $213,000, the amount he would have earned for the game he’ll miss due to being suspended by the team. Johnson was suspended for the gay slurs he directed at a Twitter heckler earlier in the week, a comment he apparently repeated in the Chiefs’ locker room.

Apple ( NSDQ: AAPL ) is one lucky company to have such a dedicated community of users. On that note, we spotted a fan-made video which we call “iDon’t Care” and which, as you can presume, answers to Verizon’s Droid commercial . The main point of the clip is “iDon’t buy brands who bash other brands.” Personally, I’m impressed with the Droid and see it as one of those devices I’ve waited for so long to appear. However, will iPhone users switch sides is another story. What do you think? And now the “iDon’t Care” video.

Earlier today, Hitwise published a report estimating that music-related searches currently make up about 6% of total queries on Google. Clearly then, by integrating actual audio content that could be purchased online, Google would create a big opportunity for all of those involved. Well, Google has just answered that call, by launching a major new feature that incorporates streaming audio previews when you search for an artist, album, or song using the search engine.
