Nancy Pelosi starts clock on House health bill By Patrick O’Connor and Chris Frates Politico October 29, 2009 (House Speaker Nancy Pelosi) backed down from a deal granting liberals a vote to establish single-payer government-run health care. She cut the deal with New York Rep. Anthony Weiner to break a last-minute logjam on the Energy and Commerce Committee. But, in the end, party leaders were concerned the final cost would be astronomical and the vote would fail to garner votes from even half the caucus.

Went over to The Bean Walker (run by Tim Albrecht who is quoted in the article) and saw a column by Jonathan Martin at Politico who seems to be trying to stir up a controversy regarding the invitation Palin has received to come speak in Des Moines . It’s titled, “ Iowa Republicans wince at Sarah Palin’s $100K speaking fee .” A conservative Iowa group’s effort to lure Sarah Palin to its banquet next month has had an unintended effect: Rather than exciting conservatives about the prospect

Thomas Frank on the Obama Administration’s accurate analysis of Fox ‘News’: To point out that this network is different, that it is intensely politicized, that it inhabits an alternate reality defined by an imaginary conflict between noble heartland patriots and devious liberals—to be aware of these things is not the act of a scheming dictatorial personality. It is the obvious conclusion drawn by anybody with eyes and ears. Oh… and where was this op-ed, entitled, “Obama Is Right About Fox News,” published? The Wall Street Journal.

Here’s the ad: Here’s the blog posting in which Politico reporter Josh Kraushaar accuses Hoffman of “Republican dirty tricks.” That’s a bit humorous, really.  After all, how can it be a “Republican dirty trick” when the ad in question is being run by a Conservative Party candidate against the official Republican candidate in the race? Is Kraushaar suggesting that Hoffman is the real Republican and that Scozzafava is something else?  Like, I don’t know, a progressive ? The cognitive dissonance on display is astounding.

Only in San Francisco would a house with a tree that shoots fire be considered a future museum site . That is, if saw player extraordinaire and former hotelier Bob Pritikin has his way. According to a report in the San Francisco Chronicle , Pritikin, who often throws lavish fundraisers at his residence—sort of an adult’s fun house with kitschy memorabilia strewn throughout—is hoping to “pay the bills, make a nice contribution to the community and have some daytime visitors” by transforming his mansion into a museum.

Via Politico . One of the 20 finalists in health care video contest run by Barack Obama’s campaign arm features a mural of an America flag splattered with health care graffiti until it’s covered completely by black paint. According to the Organizing for American Web site, the 20 finalists in the “Health Reform Video Challenge” were chosen by a panel of “qualified” Democratic National Committee “employee judges.” Translation: America Haters Now that Obama is in office, desecrating the American flag is once again nouveau.

Democrats are launching a new website and online video campaign aimed at Sarah Palin ’s “lies” about health care reform, encouraging the use of Facebook as a primary battleground. The seemingly low budget video (embedded below) centers around President Obama ’s claim that, “If you misrepresent what’s in our plan, we’ll call you out!” and includes screenshots of the former Alaska governor’s Facebook page featuring the infamous “death panel” claims, in addition to other Palin-centric fact-checking.

From NBC’s Mark Murray Yesterday, we noted that the Iowa Family Policy Center has invited Sarah Palin to address the group on Nov. 21, which just happens to be the same day when Vice President Biden attends the Iowa Democratic Party ’s Jefferson-Jackson dinner in the Hawkeye State. Palin has yet to decide whether she’ll attend the event in Iowa, but this story might complicate things a bit: Politico’s Martin writes that the Iowa Family Policy Center is raising $100,000 to pay for Palin’s speaking fee — which has raised eyebrows from other Iowa groups.

It’s his answer for everything : The Politico reports that the White House sent senior adviser David Axelrod and political director Patrick Gaspard to New Jersey in August, to express the White House’s concerns about the race. One Corzine aide said there was a message being sent that Corzine should consider dropping out of the race — which Corzine never would have done — but that allegation was denied by White House officials. So any incumbent who is behind in the polls needs to step aside.

using advertising to disprove economic theory – dailybiz.wordpress.com 10/29/2009 One of the cornerstone thesis of economics has been the theory that human beings are, by nature, rational people. This theory has been under attack by many modern economists, who in addition to looking at the wild risk taking (albeit government demanded and subsidized – ladies and gentlemen, let’s put a hand together for Chris Dodd, Barney Frank and the current Congressional leadership!) and the gullibility of those who fell for the easy and consistent returns of con men like Bernie Madoff have new studies that show people to be less than rational in their economic decisions.

It’s one thing for Republicans with presidential ambitions to get involved in NY-23’s special election. It’s also not that puzzling that Fred Thompson and Michelle Bachmann endorsed Hoffman: both do have a national audience. But what does it say about the contest’s unbelievably high stakes that a former Republican state legislator running for the House in Oklahoma took the time to endorse Hoffman’s candidacy, hundreds of miles away? We thought the Perry-Hutchison and Crist-Rubio primary would be the medium through which Republicans would let all of their internal dissensions out in the open.
