Have you heard the news out of Philadelphia this week? About a group of day campers who paid to enjoy a weekly swim time at a local pool club, but on the first day they showed up to swim they were asked to leave? Take one guess what race the campers were. What boggles my mind is not so much that this happened – I have long since lost any illusions I might have once had about the (non)existence of racism in this day and age – but that the pool employees actually said OUT LOUD, in basically so many words, that the kids were being asked to leave because they were black.
