Filed under: Verizon Wireless We’ve been seeing a lot of reports of Verizon data services being down today, possibly limited to BlackBerrys (which, ironically, are probably used in mission critical situations more than most other devices). What’s the status out there in the field? Anyone see any issues? [Thanks to everyone who sent this in] Update: Response from commenters has us thinking this is a pretty isolated incident, but keep the reports coming.

Filed under: Industry , Media PCs , Other formats , Other hardware When it rains it pours — right on the heels of the punishing blow dealt to RealDVD, the money-laden Kaleidescape crowd suffered its own setback at the hands of the law. You just know that the DVD CCA (Copy Control Association) appealed the 2007 ruling that allowed Kaleidescape owners to rip DVDs to their media servers, and yesterday a California Appeals Court overturned that ruling.

Microsoft Zune HD’s specification is out and it is ready for pre-order. After so many days of information on Zune HD, the specification is finally available in PDF format. Specs after the break. We have heard so much about the Tegra chip in the Zune HD. But, the specs is always elusive. Even the pre-order site does not have a good specs sheet (which is strange). Nevertheless, the good people of Engadget has managed to get the PDF format of the specs.

Daring Fireball points over to engadget’s story about how the Zune HD is available on September 15 . I have to say that the hardware does look pretty sexy. It’s not going to replace my iPhone or iPod Touch, but I’d love to get my paws on one to see how it feels and acts. Anyone at Microsoft want a chance to convert me by sending me a review unit?

Display screens on vehicles have always taken the square route and no matter how jazzy they turn out to be, designers seem to be wary of going round. It seems nobody wants anything round in their car, unless of course it turns out to be Queen Latifah. Russian design company Art Lebedev Studio is known for the amazing designs it produces. Whether it is designs for keyboards, magazine covers or websites, Art Lebedev Studio has shown its mastery when it comes to creativity.

We have no idea who would choose an iPhone app over a real, honest-to-goodness textbook, but if you really want to spend marathon cram sessions hunched over a 3.5-inch display, a company called CourseSmart has just made its entire catalog available for viewing with its eTextbooks app. Certainly, it seems that the company’s selection is nothing to sneeze at — electronic access to over 7,000 titles from 12 publishers — so if you’re already using the service, additional on-the-go access to the books (as well as the handy search, notes, and bookmarks) might prove quite worthwhile.
