iPhone World.ca writes : Matt Janssen, a fellow iPhone user has discovered a bug that allowed him to find emails three or four months old. As long as you know the subject line you can search Spotlight for the deleted emails and it seems to be occurring because Spotlight is not clearing its cache inline with the mail client. The bug has been reported to have been fixed in OS version 3.1 and although Spotlights cache will clear, no one is exactly sure when it does. A video showing this bug can be seen here.

For when the world needs to see with pristine detail your cat playing inside a paper bag in the middle of the kitchen, or every blemish on your face as you regale the exciting story of your day, Microsoft’s unveiled the LifeCam Cinema HD webcam. The USB 2.0 device captures life in 1,280 x 720 HD resolution at 30 frames per second, with auto focus, 4x digital zoom, a noise-canceling mic on top, and something called ClearFrame for smoother video, somehow.

There’s something very peculiar about Sony bringing down the PlayStation Network for “maintenance” today from noon until 2:00PM ET. Not only is that timeframe somewhat prime gaming hours for North America and Europe — and arguably Asia, too — but it also happens to coincide perfectly with the company’s press conference at the gamescom expo in Cologne, Germany, the rumored site for the PS3 Slim’s official debut and a price cut for the original.

As the story goes, a Kotaku reader just received these PS3 posters into the FYE shop where he works. You’ll notice that the “new low price” is augmented with a “while supplies last” disclaimer indicating what could be a close-out on the 80GB (soon $300, reduced from $400) and 160GB ($400, reduced from $500) PlayStation 3 models.

Following a Netherlands-exclusive release back in June, SPRXmobile has now taken its so-called Layar “Reality Browser” for Android to the global stage and advanced it to version 2.0 in the process. Perhaps the first commercial augmented reality app to launch on a large scale, Layar’s got a good amount of momentum behind it — the company claims that 100 developers are already hard at work developing reality layers that users can toggle, and an additional 500 developers are being added into the mix with the latest release.

We’ll confess it, we expected to be knee-deep in Android gear by now. However, it seems like the consumer electronics industry wanted to build more mature products around versions 1.5 and 2.0 of Google’s open source OS instead. Regardless, we’re in the thick of it now having just eyewitnessed a deluge of Android-based smartbooks / netbooks (expected before October ) at Computex and Google’s own announcement that at least 18 new Android handsets will launch that year.
