Aug26EngadgetYou know those confidentiality agreements companies sign with the FCC to keep our prying eyes away? Well, Archos didn’t sign one. The result is a treasure trove of information about its new A5S (model 7501) Internet Media Tablet and a whisper of the A5H (model 7502) to come. The A5S looks very much like the 4.8-inch Archos 5 we already know and uh, know. However, there is a slight redesign resulting in a new location for the speaker and headphone jack as well as the inclusion of a microSD slot and what looks to be microUSB.

Filed under: Telus Mobility , HSDPA , UMTS , HSUPA There was really never any question that Telus’ shiny new HSPA network was launching this fall, but the carrier’s generally been tightlipped on specifics; fortunately, standards bodies and industry associations have a funny tendency to unintentionally help fill in some of those blanks, and this time around it’s the GSM Association doing the honors.

Apple still hasn’t confirmed when exactly their annual iPod event will be held next month, but despite this, AppleInsider has gone on the record confirming that it will all go down on Sept 9. They also believe that Apple will finally debut the camera toting 3G iPod Touch in this event and a new iTunes with “ social networking ” features will also be unveiled. Sadly, though, for those of you expecting an Apple tablet to be announced, they feel that it won’t happen next month.

Of course, there’s nothing that’s been stopping you from using Google Voice or some other third-party service to accomplish the same thing, but for the sake of argument, let’s just say you’d rather have something more integrated with a first-party feel.

Filed under: Software , ATT , Apple , iPhone OS If the maniacs at RealNetworks have their way, you’ll soon be rockin’ out to Rhapsody on your iPhone or iPod touch, streaming all those pop tunes you crave over WiFi, Edge, or 3G, courtesy of your $15 Rhapsody ToGo account — pending approval from Apple, of course. Sure, we can’t imagine the company allowing Pandora but dissing Rhapsody, but stranger things have happened .

Filed under: Handsets , Pantech , ATT , GSM If you’re looking for the most basic of basic candybars and you happen to be using AT&T service, today is a glorious day, friends, because Pantech’s submitted a doozy for the FCC’s perusal. The C180 lacks virtually every modern mobile convenience, eschewing even EDGE data — though they have managed to keep a memory slot and FM radio aboard.

The deal may have first been announced somewhat quietly last month , but now that Sony’s come out with what’s arguably its most attractive e-reader to date , the availability of over a million public domain books in the Sony-friendly EPUB format is sure to garner a fair bit more attention. As Google announced on its Inside Google Books blog, those books are now all available for download starting today and are, of course, completely free and able to be used on the EPUB-supporting device of your choice.
