It looks like at least one round of the battle between Funai and VIZIO is drawing to a close, and it’s a big win for VIZIO. U.S. Customs has ruled that all current VIZIO TVs do not infringe on Funai’s Patent 6,115,074 — which was rejected by the Patent Office a few months ago. With the USPTO and US Customs now on the same page, all the bureaucratic checkmarks are in place and VIZIO TVs can freely enter the US on their immigrant-inspired journey to homes all across this fair land.

Rockchip have plans to release its low-cost RK2808 chipset in October taking advantage of Android’s free nature. Rockchip who are already a favourite among dirt cheap, plan to release its chipset onto the Chinese market claiming it would be the perfect match. In addition they are claiming the RK2808 enables additional multimedia capability over what is available in Android handsets. If you own or have owned a cheap PMP from China you may have already heard of the rockchip processor.

Oh sure, we joke about rogue AI all the time, and we’re aware that we’ll probably pollute ourselves to death well before the robots get us, but who really thinks flesh-eating machines are a good idea? Has Morpheus taught us nothing? The (patently evil) scientists behind the EATR project — no fair, they’re making their own jokes now too — say the reconnaissance bot is powered by foraging for and consuming biomatter, which to you and us simply means soft, pulsating, yummy humans.

While Chrome OS is still a pretty rough sketch in our mind’s eye, the Google boys have hosted a press conference to answer a few burning questions. Among the myriad revelations, it turns out Eric Schmidt wasn’t stoked on building a browser when Sergey Brin and Larry Page brought it up about six years ago, given the fact that Google was still relatively small, and the browser wars were still fresh in everyone’s minds. After he saw an early build of Chrome, however, he changed his tune.

Rather than sit here, turn bright green with envy and throw a fit, though, we’re just going to do our best to enjoy a few shots of T-Mobile’s version of the Touch Pro2 being unboxed on a lovely granite countertop.

Sony’s VAIO P ‘mark 2′ hopefully learns from past mistakes While we had high hopes for Sony’s sleek and beautifully crafted VAIO P back in the day , it’s become a major point of frustration and thus, ridicule, ever since we first powered it up . This $900ish ultra-portable is the very symbol of what tends to go wrong at Sony: beautiful hardware is crippled by software leaving consumers wondering why they paid a premium for such an undistinguished user experience.

While our greasy, monkey-knuckled sisters over at Autoblog are getting themselves into a twist over Jaguar’s recent resurgence, our eyes remain firmly focused on the cockpit of Coventry’s new 2010 XJ. At the center of the console is an 8-inch dual-view touchscreen that allows you, the driver, to monitor the on-board navigation maps while your passenger simultaneously watches a TV or a DVD — in silence, if they choose, with the aid of headphones.
