It’s been quite a while since we last heard anything about the BlackBerry Storm 2 . We know its coming with a better touchscreen display with WiFi included, and now, we’ve got a major update for your RIM aficionados out there. It’s just been revealed that the BlackBerry 9550 aka Storm 2 will actually come with 3.2-megapixel camera, quad-band GSM/EDGE, UMTS/HSDPA (2100MHz), WiFi b/g connectivity, a 360×480 capacitive touchscreen display, and runs on OS 5.0.

You effortlessly mix work and play, transitioning from power lunches, to 2PM meetings, to 5PM happy hours, and you never change phones. You want your BlackBerry to make a statement — a bold statement (but not that Bold ). For you, Sprint and RIM proudly present a new color of the Curve 8330, “Inferno” — and as the name implies, it blinds the retinas.

Sunday, July 12th, 2009 by Steven 0 Add a CommentThe BenQ S6 MID didn’t exactly light the world on fire when it was launched back in 2008, and although we assumed it had faded into irrelevance along with the rest of the category, it looks like the company’s bringing it back — preloaded with Windows XP instead of Linux. It actually makes a certain insane kind of sense, since the S6 is built on an Atom processor, but we’re just not sure anyone wants to pay $424 for XP on a 4.8-inch screen with an 800MHz processor — especially since you’ll have to fly to Taiwan to pick one up.

As you should know by now , this is Toshiba’s most significant attempt to date at penetrating the consumer smartphone market, and it’s coming equipped with a battering ram named Snapdragon .

Filed under: Software You remember TAT, right? Amongst other things The Astonishing Tribe has done some bang-up work with the user interface for the G1, unveiled a pretty impressive 3D eye-tracking concept , and now they’re hard at work developing something called Augmented ID, an augmented reality concept that uses facial recognition software to attach your visage to a profile. When someone views you through their handset’s camera, pre-selected info and social networking links appear to hover around you, letting your new found friend in on more than just your pretty smile.

Filed under: Handsets , Verizon Wireless , EV-DO , CDMA , Casio Casio has developed a well-entrenched reputation on Verizon for bringing mercilessly rugged phones to market — a strange reputation, considering how few phones Casio sells in North America in general — but at any rate, it looks like that trend’s probably going to continue with the new “G’zOne Rock” that just garnered FCC certification.

We’ve been sort of wondering when we’d see a solar e-ink display, and here we are — Neoluxiim is demoing this panel for use in point-of-sale advertising. What’s interesting here is that the background appears to be in color while the text is black, but we’re assuming that’s just a fixed image behind the e-ink layer. Everyone ready for impulse purchasing to go high-tech? Video after the break.
