Hot on the heels of the word that RIM’s BlackBerry Curve 8520 would be heading for Vodaphone in the UK , Pocket Lint’s gotten a hold of one. The optical trackball-boasting, entry-level (read: no 3G, darling looks pretty brilliant in the photos, despite its stripped down form factor. Pocket Lint is also reporting that it’ll be Vodaphone-bound in August, and it’ll also be available through Orange for pre-paid deals and from Carphone Warehouse where it’ll be offered in violet.

Get used to seeing Sony’s new low-priced VAIO NW pop up all over the place: not only is Best Buy heavily promoting the $800 configuration as part of its Next Class campaign , but it’s a pretty great value in general — our $880 tester with Blu-ray basically has every feature you could want in a WIndows machine. We just got it unboxed and toyed around with it a little — it’s not the smallest 15.5-inch machine we’ve ever seen, but it’s not a clunker, either. There’s just… more of it to love.

Filed under: Verizon Wireless , LTE We don’t know if this is indicative of the company’s rumored plans to roll out LTE in Q1 2010 , but Verizon has announced that it’ll start running trials of its 4G network later this year, and the lucky cities to first get a stab at it are Seattle and Boston. In an earnings call today, CFO John Killian reiterated that the plan is to have a commercial launch in “up to 30 markets next year” (note he didn’t say when in 2010), with an expected 100 million points of presence for LTE by 2013.

Right on schedule , Taser’s launching the TASER X3 “force option,” which allows “peace officers” the ability to shoot up to three probes in quick succession in order to “incapacitate” their “targets.” Not only that, but the X3 can display a “warning arc” when loaded, allowing officers to “gain voluntary compliance” and “avert use-of-force” by putting on a light show.

Acer Aspire One gets Broadcom injection, morphs into netbook HD powerhouse Playing video on most netbooks is risky business; any file with a moderately high resolution and/or bitrate quickly devolves into a 1fps headache. The solution, as HP has already figured out , is a mini PCI-e Broadcom HD video accelerator, exactly what the folks at Terracode managed to wedge into an Acer Aspire One .
