Filed under: Other hardware , Others It’s more than a year late , but Classé is finally ready to release its SSP-800 AV pre/pro. Stunning aesthetics and build quality are here, but from the specs, it’s hard for us to see what has taken the $8,000 beauty so long. The 64-bit TI DSP sure sounds impressive, but the absence of onboard video processing (no scaling or deinterlacing) makes us wonder what it’s busy computing.

We’ve seen the Wiimote used to control plenty of wild things , and to be perfectly honest, we’re pretty unimpressed with most of what we see these days. This video, however, made by an Australian with a lot of heavy equipment on hand, is truly awesome. The 15-ton grapples themselves are impressive, elegant pieces of machinery, and using Python to link the Wiimote up as controller via Bluetooth is really just icing on the cake. It’s got a sweet soundtrack, to boot! Video is after the break.

With Windows 7 just months away from release, Microsoft is putting a new individual in charge of the whole Windows division. Steven Sinofsky — who was previously responsible for squashing thousands upon thousands of early Win7 bugs as the senior vice president for the Windows and Windows Live Engineering Group — now has a shiny new title. We’re told that as president, Mr. Sinofsky “assumes responsibility for the Windows business including both the engineering and marketing functions for Windows, Windows Live and Internet Explorer.” Yeah, pretty broad.

Though the myTouch 3G is really just an HTC Magic at its core, T-Mobile seems to be doing everything it can to gussy it up with as much crapware bloatware value-add software that it can. All kidding aside, this really isn’t crapware — the carrier is apparently quite serious about calling out best-in-class apps in the Android Market, going so far as to create a separate “app pack” application that’ll drill down stuff it wants to highlight.

Two long lost siblings, at last reunited. But can there ever be unity? We don’t think so. At every turn, the HTC Hero seems to trounce the myTouch 3G — it’s really hardly a contest. The myTouch is certainly lighter, and in many ways “feels” smaller because of it, but the size differences really are negligible. They’re still both great phones, but the Hero really feels like a million bucks, while the myTouch feels a bit like a toy. Unfortunately, only one of them just went up for pre-order on T-Mobile, and it’s not the one we want to marry.Gallery: HTC Hero vs.

It’s no secret that some game consoles consume a whole lot more power than others, and it looks like that fact hasn’t escaped the folks at TrickleStar, who’ve now rolled out their TV TrickleSaver device aimed at cutting down on some of that rogue power consumption. As you can probably guess from the looks of it, you simply plug both your TV and game console into the device (it’ll also work just fine with a power bar, thankfully), and then the device itself works its magic to completely cut off power to the game console or consoles whenever your shut off your TV.
