Just a few weeks after celebrating the 35th birthday of the barcode , researchers at MIT have unveiled a promising replacement for the aging standard. Gizmodo reports. Dubbed the Bokode , the system uses a clever focusing technique that allows a small beam of light to hold a wealth of easily accessible information. … The implications of the Bokode could be huge. While traditional 1D and 2D barcodes can be read by cell phone cameras, the camera has to be extremely close to the barcode in order to get a good read.

Filed under: Microsoft Microsoft is expected to launch a chain of retail stores in the not-too-distant future. If I had to guess, I’d say the stores will probably look like a software-heavy cross between a Best Buy and an Apple store. But the folks at Gizmodo got their hands on a leaked PowerPoint presentation that includes a number of concept designs for the store. Some of these concepts may eventually be included in the actual stores, while others may be nothing other than big ideas that’ll be ready for the public around the same time as Duke Nukem Forever .

Now we know why Google Voice apps were only released for BlackBerry and Android . Apple rejected Google’s official Google Voice app when it was submitted for approval six weeks ago. What. The. Shit. Here’s the quote from the Google spokesperson to TechCrunch: “We work hard to bring Google applications to a number of mobile platforms, including the iPhone. Wow that’s cool, a 98-incher on bedroom’s ceiling. Alright, a great mum Patti Deni wanted a 98-inch StarGlas60 screen to be aligned straight with the ceiling of her kid’s bedroom. Stereo Advantage, an audio/video specialty company in Williamsville, NY, has installed a NEC video projector and projection mirrors. Goodness sakes. Verizon and AT&T are battling over who has the most reliable network. So, in its next move Verizon is asking a federal court to validate its claim that it has “America’s most reliable 3G Network.” While this is really about big boys trying to mark out their territory with bodily fluids, Verizon is basing its appeal to the court on what it says that AT&T’s position” relies on the incorrect premise that speed is an essential element of the standard of measuring network reliability .” AT&T calls that “preposterous.
