As Sirius XM fanboys are well aware, the company is expected to debut its XM SkyDock satellite radio controller for iPhone / iPod touch at a press event this week. Now, along with spy shots dug up by the satellite radio hounds at Orbitcast , we have some press photos (below) and some PR for you (after the break) with the official details. Compatible with the first and second gen iPod touch as well as iPhone / iPhone 3G / iPhone 3GS with OS 3.0, this guy is hitting the shelves this fall for an MSRP of $119.99.

Dubbed SkyDock, the $119.99 peripheral uses iPhone OS 3’s support for third-party hardware to transform Apple (AAPL) handsets into full-fledged satellite radios. Designed to run off a car’s cigarette power adapter, the SkyDock charges your iPhone while you listen to it and supports the ability to tag songs for download from iTunes. Better yet, it gives users access to all XM and “The Best of SIRIUS” channels, even those the company infamously excludes from its online feed, like Howard Stern, MLB Play-by-Play and NFL Play-by-Play.

It’s happening again. Important people are dropping dead while The Howard Stern Show is on vacation. ABC News has reported that Senator Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts died late Tuesday night at his home in Massachusetts. Senator Kennedy was diagnosed with brain cancer last year and underwent surgery on the tumor earlier this summer. So,…it’s not that it’s a shock that Teddy finally kicked the bucket. But for Howard Stern Show fans, it’s absolutely outrageous that the death of such a prominent subject of ridicule on the show has happened, once again while Stern is on vacation.

Sirius XM did a launch of its fall lineup of satellite radio gear and headed it up with the first-ever satellite radio peripheral for the iPhone. The XM SkyDock will let subscribers to the XM half of the company’s service tune into the actual satellite feed through an iPhone or iPod touch. It has both the true receiver as well as the antenna and so won’t require an Internet connection like the Sirius XM Internet radio app for Apple’s devices.
