WaPo: This is merely “play[ing] into a view of Bush popular among his detractors…” This required a few passes to be sure my eyes weren’t playing tricks. You keep telling yourself to stop being amazed by hypocrisy and bias, but again and again someone like Philip Kennicott, a staff writer for the Washington Post, comes up with nonsense like this : And didn’t we see George W. Bush depicted as the Joker not so long ago? Yes, in an image by Drew Friedman published online by Vanity Fair on July 29, 2008.

Posted by Erica G from Kabul Since the new UN estimates on civilians killed so far in 2009 were released on Friday, I’ve been getting questions on whether these numbers are helpful, or even accurate, in describing the conflict: What’s the value of the obsession with body counting? In one sense, these numbers offer a measure of accountability for the human costs of the conflict.

So why does Social Media need to be taken seriously? It’s more believeable and trustworthy than the filtered mainstream media that has many vested interests Its fast and effecient as it can be sent from smartphones before it even hits the traditional media channels (remember the Iranian Elections) It has leverage.

Illinois Republican Rep. Aaron Schock , 28, is the youngest member of Congress and a product of the GOP’s Young Guns program , which works to get young Republican talent into office. Serving in Abraham Lincoln’s district, he’s an honest hard-worker who began his IRA at age 14 . And, if you ask NPR, he also “has the best abs .” But NPR is not the first and certainly won’t be the last to cover Schock, or prominently feature his abdominals.

There’s something to be said for having low expectations: you’ll rarely find yourself disappointed. Or as baffled as “Confused 20-Something,” who’s two years out of college and quit her job at an educational nonprofit when she was accepted at an alternative certification program to become a middle school  teacher only to find, now, she can’t get a job. Confused recently  wrote in to Salon.com’s Cary Tennis for advice. Her problem?  Throughout the training, I had nagging, persistent feelings that this wasn’t what I was meant to be doing.
