If you’re with me {go ahead, shout it now, “I’m with you!”,} I think we could change the world this very week. So I’m declaring this the week of Global of Compliments. Someone call Hallmark and the Nobel Peace Prize committee. HOW TO GIVE A COMPLIMENT 1. Sincerity is paramount. Fake compliments are very bad juju.

I caught up with Luke Bozier this week. He’s the managing director of Red Narrative , the agency that is advising Dr Ashraf Ghani , a leading contender to replace President Karzai in August’s presidential election in Afghanistan , on social media strategy. It’s a long post. But I make no apologies. Bozier’s frontline views on the Labour party, the Afghan election, LabourList and the forthcoming UK General Election are well worth reading. Thanks to Mark Hanson for the introduction. Q.

Bill Gates has more money than God. It’s true — otherwise, God would have tried developing a project to tame nasty hurricanes years ago. Unfortunately, God missed out on the whole “operating system” boom (though word is, he’s behind Google’s newest OS ) and now Gates is in a position to one up the Almighty. The Huffington Post is reporting that Gates is working with “several other scientists and engineers” on a device that would effectively break up hurricanes before they have a chance to slap places like New Orleans.

How Geeks (and Non-Geeks) Can Help Iranians Online By CYRUS FARIVAR in Oakland | 17 July 2009 [TEHRAN BUREAU] In the past few weeks, I’ve seen a surprising number of my non-Iranian friends utterly captivated by news coming out of Iran. It’s easy to understand why — the power struggle in Iran’s post-election aftermath is dramatic, to say the least. Indeed, some of the best English-language blogging about Iran has come from non-Iranians, including The New York Times, The Atlantic and The Huffington Post.

OMG There are reasons I like reading the Huffington Post .. Fox News Channel comedian Glenn Beck is highlighted in one of their recent articles, entitled “ Caller Reduces Glenn Beck To High-Pitched Hissy Fit .” I’m not sure if reading the article in the H-Post was funnier or actually listening to Becks ravings. Beck is good at shooting himself in the foot but as this article points out he may have stabbed himself in another part of his anatomy. In case you haven’t heard this guy he’s the Ann Coulter of comedy news. He makes Rush Limbaugh look like an Obama loving democrat.
