Last December I wrote a blog called The State of Book Publishing . I just checked the links and they all still work and much of the information is worth thinking about even though it’s not as fresh as it was back then. This Tuesday we’ve 5 blogs about book publishing in general Anjuelle Floyd, who has written several books blogs about  The High Cost of Agents . I’m not sure I totally agree with her about agents, but she’s right about how self-publishing is opening more doors for authors.

The Federal Trade Commission has released its revised guidelines concerning the use of endorsements and testimonials in advertising. The revisions include a focus on “bloggers” and social media users, requiring them to properly disclose when they have received payment in the form of either money or product from a company or organization and produce content regarding said company or organization. The word is that bloggers can be fined up to $11,000 per post for not disclosing.

I have some extremely sad food news to report, Gourmet Magazine is going to be closing : “Condé Nast will close Gourmet magazine, a magazine of almost biblical status in the food world , it was announced on Monday. Gourmet has been published since January 1941.” This is pretty upsetting as Gourmet not only gave food lovers a place to go for recipes and tips but it also provided commentary on a variety of food related issues like, as The Huffington Post pointed out , David Foster Wallace arguing against lobsters being boiled to death.  Basically, their entire food politics section offers some of the best reporting around.
