A Florida-based journalist turned abolitionist recently named in Huffington Post as one of the “Top 10 Women Warriors of Twitter” has launched “09-09-09” – a one-day Twitterthon initiative on September 9, 2009, to raise funds to fight child trafficking. Diana Scimone, a veteran journalist who has chronicled the $9.5 billion-a-year human trafficking industry for years, founded the non-profit Born to Fly International to help end child slavery.

I’ve learned a couple of interesting factoids while doing freelancing work at advertising agencies. While working on design of the “Who Would You Give a Volvo To” contest (which I insisted on calling “To Whom Would You Give aVolvo?”) the entire firm where I was employed was informed that Ariana Huffington would be paid a stipend for giving favorable mention to both the car and the contest in her blog on The Huffington Post. A week or so ago, Saving the World’s Women appeared in the New York Times magazine, discussing the need for aid organizations to focus on women’s rights. This past week, the Huffington Post had 2 articles that are similar, or at least reference, this article. Taking Women’s Rights Seriously Yet, in supposedly civilised and enlightened times, girls and women around the world suffer unimaginable atrocities: forced marriage, rape, mutilation and death in pregnancy and childbirth .

Money, get back. I’m all right jack, keep your hands off of my stack. -Pink Floyd Kathy Trant received several million dollars after her husband was killed in the September 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center. She called it “blood money” and ran through the millions, spending it on such things as shoes and trips. Jack Whitaker won $290 million in the Powerball Lottery jackpot. A few years later he claimed that he had been cleaned out.
