We hang towels like the pros, use fishing line to reel in cable clutter, and create an alternative to retail whiteboards. Don’t like the gallery format? See all the tips on one page here . An iPhone Only Bike Mount Vincent read how to make a handlebar phone mount and decided to make an iPhone specific one: Although it doesn’t support any other phones, it is sturdy, pretty sleek and minimalistic. especially compared to the bulky ones that are commercially available.

Linux only: System restrictions utility Lockdown Editor lets you lock down your Gnome desktop, removing access to the command line, specific panel items, or even prevent locking the screen. The application, which is meant for use on a public internet kiosk, can be used for a variety of other uses—you could lock down and prevent any changes to a child’s computer, or prevent that one relative from breaking his computer yet again by removing access to anything other than email and a web browser.

It may not have the words “DON’T PANIC” inscribed in large friendly letters on its cover, but our Bookworm’s Guide to the Lifehacker Galaxy is a compilation of some of our favorite book related hacks, projects, and tricks. Filed under: E-mail , Web services , Google , Freeware I’ve been guilty of it, and if you subscribe to a lot of mailing lists, I’d be willing to be you’ve been too. Guilty of what? Of marking legitimate mailing list email as spam as a shortcut way to unsubscribe. To be fair, most of the time when I’ve done this, it’s because the mailing list in question makes unsubscribing difficult. But sometimes it’s just sheer laziness. The problem with marking legitimate messages as spam is that it messes with Google’s spam detection algorithms.

I recently had a much needed eye exam at Costco. This is the first time the doctor (or health professional) that cares for me is (seemingly) younger than I am; I must indeed be getting old.  I resisted asking him about what he thought of the upcoming G.I. Joe movie for fear he would poke my eyes.  Anyways, he was great and the exam was neither unusual nor unpleasant. The latter particularly because I did not expect to go to a one stop shop this time (the ones where they both give you an eye exam and sell you glasses).

Even though face recognition is not as popular as other biometric means of security such as fingerprint recognition, it still is a powerful and easy to use way to increase your security. Banana screen lets you harness the facial recognition to login to your PC without typing in your password. Being used to a biometric fingerprint scanner on both my work and home laptops, I was disappointed when I started using my ASUS netbook. I had to think of an alternate way to login without typing in passwords.
