This is completely a rumor, but an awesome one. Citing a “pretty reliable” source, Boy Genius Report is saying that the next version of iTunes will add a bunch of new, highly requested features. Specificially, BGR’s source says iTunes 9 features Blu-ray support, a new way to organize iPhone apps within iTunes, as well some kind of integration with Twitter, Facebook and possibly Last.fm. Each of those features have been talked about for some time now on the web.

The Boy Genius Report has “received a tip from a pretty reliable source” claiming that iTunes 9 will include support for Blu-ray. This isn’t the first time this rumor has cropped up though. Back in April a Mac Rumors forum poster pointed out that the iTunes 8.2 beta contained references to Blu-ray data from Gracenote. But, with the latest rumors that the iMac line could receive Blu-ray drives, you might want to take this a little more seriously (I would also suggest a grain of salt).

Take this rumor with a fairly large grain of salt and please hold your “bag of hurt” comments until the end. Boy Genius claims he’s got it on word from a “pretty reliable source” that the next big iTunes revision will include better organization options for your iPhone / iPod touch apps, something vague concerning integration with Twitter, Facebook, and Last.fm, and… Blu-ray support. To be fair, the HD disc format wars are all but over at this point, and the most recent Final Cut Pro actually lets you burn video directly to a third-party BD drive, only to have to play the discs on another, non-Mac device.

Apple could roll out a tablet PC in early 2010, according to a new research note by Piper Jaffray. The Apple tablet PC would be cheaper than a MacBook but still more expensive than the mininotebooks or netbooks that are currently dominating sales on the lower end of the PC market. Despite that higher price point, Piper Jaffray sees an Apple tablet PC as a challenging competitor in the netbook market, as well for mobile devices from companies such as Amazon.com.

I’m writing this post to insure that there’s complete transparency regarding my involvement with 50 Below. I’m pretty sure that some of you, either with some encouragement from one of 50 Below’s competitors, or on your own, are going to wonder what the nature of this relationship is. I don’t want there to be any confusion or misunderstanding about why I’m doing this. I want you Dear Reader to be 100% clear about what the deal is. And because of that, I hope you will respect my position and my conclusion.
