With its character limit, Twitter has made the service of taking a longer URL and transforming it into a manageable link quite valuable. Other than Twitter there are other reasons why URL shorteners are useful.

We’ve all seen the brilliant functionality on Mashable where news stories and interesting articles can be shared to social networking sites; the functionality is driven by the images accompanying the articles; you click and hold on an image and can then drag it into a toolbar to share it. It’s brilliant and intuitive, and in this article I’m going to show you how we can replicate this behavior with jQuery and jQuery UI.

While you’re only in the video as an extra, augmented reality has a lot of potential. What is augmented reality? Essentially, it combines both real and virtual aspects, in real-time, and is 3-D. Common examples include the yellow first down line seen in football broadcasts, or the shot tracer that follows the puck in hockey games.
