Famous people keep dropping like flies.  This seems to be the worst year for celebrity death in quite some time, perhaps since the year that John Denver and Sonny Bono died young and needlessly.  Of course, not all of the celebs who shuffle off this mortal coil are on the level of a Michael Jackson or a Patrick Swayze.  Some are known for other things than performing and are really only celebrities in the loosest definition of the word.  Two of those who have recently died are Larry Gelbart and Jody Powell .

Brittany Scott is a drum major for the Tyner High School Marching Band.  The petite junior walks with a settled confidence, her eyes missing nothing about the shorthanded band arrayed on a practice field next to the aged school building.  In just a few days Tyner will take the field at Finley Stadium for the annual Drumline competition, and she knows there is no time to let even the flu bug, which has left holes in the line, keep the band from a serious practice.

On the song “Thank You” on his new album, “The Blueprint 3,” Jay-Z raps, “How am I a legend?/ I just got 10 No. 1 albums/ Maybe now 11.” Yup. “The Blueprint 3″ moved 476,000 units over the past week, according to data compiled by Nielsen SoundScan, which is more than enough for the album to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. That pushes Hova ahead of Elvis Presley for most No. 1 albums by a solo act, and makes him No. 2 among all acts. Who has the top spot? Why, the Beatles, of course.

Michael Jackson’s dermatologist Arnold Klein is suing a cosmetic surgeon for comments he made to a newspaper that allegedly imply he taught Klein to administer propofol.The doctor in question is Steven Hoefflin, who was Jackson’s longtime friend and former doctor. Hoefflin emerged as a spokesperson for the Jackson family in the aftermath of his death. A multi-agency investigation into the homicide death of the king of pop is ongoing.Klein filed his court paper on Monday, September 14.
