“Look, kids, there’s the chasm between the parties on health-care reform.”The big news in the ongoing battle for health-care reform is that the White House may be backing away from a public option, which President Obama has said he favors as a way to reduce costs and ensure that most Americans obtain insurance. But how significant is this development, really? As it turns out, despite the popularity of the public option on the left, many pundits always expected it to be dropped at some point, and believe the reaction to the administration’s supposed shift is overblown.• Karen Tumulty says that the possible end of the public option isn’t actually a big shift at all.

Michelle Malkin’s got a good link round-up on the back and forth that went on over the weekend about whether or not the “public option” part of ObamaCare was now officially or even unofficially off the table, and she explains why ObamaCare opponents shouldn’t get their hopes up over the discussion because what’s this strategy really is all about is floating a “trial balloon” to see how nuts the far left goes over the idea of ditching the public option.

CBS’ Katie Couric treats us to a page from her “notebook,” which polls say no one cares about these days. Townhalls are a “sideshow,” she says, and “fear and ignorance” reign. Katie Couric Couric quotes a man at one of Senator Arlen Specter’s Townhall’s saying that the healthcare legislation “has awakened a sleeping giant,” Couric can’t let that man’s opinion have an ounce of respect. “Not exactly” she says. What it has done is “stirred a hornets nest.” To Couric , conservatives are certainly not giants, they are hornets.

Hooray for Glenn Beck! He needs to keep exposing these Marxist czars and Obama thugs for who they are, what they believe in, and what they are doing to try and destroy this country. One of the top agenda points lately appears to be not-so-subtle attempts to silence opposition to their awful ideology and policies.

With the UK economy in shambles, everyone expected the Labour Party, headed by Prime Minister Gordon Brown, to be defeated soundly in the next elections there. However, US Republican Party attacks on the British National Health Service as part of their campaign to discredit US health care reform are receiving wide coverage there and are causing a backlash . The NHS is so popular in the UK that virtually all politicians, including conservatives, support it, but British Conservative Party links to the US Republican party are causing it to lose popularity quickly.
