A thought occurred to me recently, listening to Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Michelle Malkin talk about this administration being variously socialist, fascist, nazi, and/or communist: “These people don’t even know what those words mean.” I’m serious.  I don’t think that they do.  They use them interchangeably, presumably to elicit an effect rather than to enlighten or give meaning to a debate.

Charles Johnson the Despot of Little Green Footballs fell victim to the story yesterday. To prove a point on his TV show the other day Glenn Beck threw a rubber frog into boiling water. The next day the “Monitor” and the left-handed side of the internet whined that Beck Killed a REAL FROG. The callous idiot Michelle Malkin can shut the hell up now . Witness: Census worker’s hanging body naked, bound BIG CREEK, Ky. – A part-time census worker found hanging in a rural Kentucky cemetery was naked, gagged and had his hands and feet bound with duct tape, said an Ohio man who discovered the body two weeks ago. Authorities have also said the word “fed” was scrawled with a felt-tip pen across 51-year-old Bill Sparkman’s chest, but they have released very few details about the case and said investigators have not determined if it was a homicide, suicide or an accident.

Left-wing blogs have made much of the death of Bill Sparkman, a Kentucky census worker found asphyxiated by a tree in eastern Kentucky.  Based on a ” unsubstantiated claim that ‘fed’ was ’scrawled’ on his chest,” they’re convinced “e very outspoken conservative activist and advocate for limited government ” are responsible for “a murder that has yet to be determined a murder.” Of course they are; they harbor fantasies of right-wing violence so we can fit the caricatures they’ve created of us, a caricature created without them every having studied our movement or considered our ideas.

Activist scholar David Barsamian visited Colorado Springs yesterday to speak on Afghanistan and raise money for the Pikes Peak Justice and Peace Commission. Barsamian was his usual gracious and erudite self but the PPJPC can’t even embarrass themselves. At one point in his presentation, Barsamian talked of encountering a Vets For Peace participant, who’d been an active PPJPC member. “You remember Brian?” He asked the group, as if relating a greeting from an old friend. Blank stares all around.
