The Republicans are firing a new salvo in their fight against meaningful health care reform.  Apparently, House Democrats have hidden a provision in their reform bill that will force the elderly to choose to elect how they want to die.  Or maybe it will send brown-shirted government workers to their houses to let them know that their health care costs too much and they need to take the big shot.  Or maybe it it will pull them out of their homes and force them into a concentration camp for old people where they’ll be euthanized once they are no longer productive.  However it happens, if you’re old, you’re a goner. What is it that has these folks so riled up, so much so that Rep.

Alex Isenstadt has a piece in today’s Politico called “ Town halls gone wild ” in which he explains how Town Hall Meetings sponsored by select Members of Congress have turned into “houses of horrors” that include “… [s]creaming constituents, protesters, [and] congressmen fearful for their safety”. This is a tremendous sign of progress for those of us who have been actively working to change policies in our country by ‘waking up’ our fellow Americans.

Screaming constituents, protesters dragged out by the cops, congressmen fearful for their safety — welcome to the new town-hall-style meeting, the once-staid forum that is rapidly turning into a house of horrors for members of Congress. On the eve of the August recess, members are reporting meetings that have gone terribly awry, marked by angry, sign-carrying mobs and disruptive behavior . In at least one case, a congressman has stopped holding town hall events because the situation has spiraled so far out of control.

Paul Begala has an incredibly powerful and persuasive op-ed in Politico today making the case for the Employee Free Choice Act. After introducing nightmare hypothetical scenarios of workers getting fired for trying to organize, Begala pulls back the curtain and reveals the stories are about real workers who were fighting for better jobs. All of these stories are absolutely true. The stories of Trish Miechur, the CNA, and Corey Kresse, the metalworker, are replicated in boardrooms and factories across America.

Here are a few of this morning’s news highlights on health reform: It looks like there won’t be a health bill coming from the Senate Finance Committee before Congress breaks for its August recess next Friday. The committee won’t even be convened next week when the full Senate is scheduled to debate Judge Sonia Sotomayor’s Supreme Court nomination, says the WSJ . The committee has been struggling to reach a bipartisan agreement on the bill, prompting Republican Sen.

Col. Timothy Reese, an adviser to the Iraqi military’s Baghdad command, recently wrote a blunt memo stating that it is time “for the U.S. to declare victory and go home .” “Extending the American military presence beyond August 2010, he argues, will do little to improve the Iraqis’ military performance while fueling growing resentment of Americans.” Karl Rove went on a public relations offensive yesterday, “saying he did nothing wrong in the controversial firings of nine U.S.

We all should have been given the opportunity to save our tax money and apply it to buying a new car. The fact only people with older or larger cars get the hand out is another classic case of government playing favorites, which I believe is unconstitutional.
