Nancy Pelosi starts clock on House health bill By Patrick O’Connor and Chris Frates Politico October 29, 2009 (House Speaker Nancy Pelosi) backed down from a deal granting liberals a vote to establish single-payer government-run health care. She cut the deal with New York Rep. Anthony Weiner to break a last-minute logjam on the Energy and Commerce Committee. But, in the end, party leaders were concerned the final cost would be astronomical and the vote would fail to garner votes from even half the caucus.

Went over to The Bean Walker (run by Tim Albrecht who is quoted in the article) and saw a column by Jonathan Martin at Politico who seems to be trying to stir up a controversy regarding the invitation Palin has received to come speak in Des Moines . It’s titled, “ Iowa Republicans wince at Sarah Palin’s $100K speaking fee .” A conservative Iowa group’s effort to lure Sarah Palin to its banquet next month has had an unintended effect: Rather than exciting conservatives about the prospect

Thomas Frank on the Obama Administration’s accurate analysis of Fox ‘News’: To point out that this network is different, that it is intensely politicized, that it inhabits an alternate reality defined by an imaginary conflict between noble heartland patriots and devious liberals—to be aware of these things is not the act of a scheming dictatorial personality. It is the obvious conclusion drawn by anybody with eyes and ears. Oh… and where was this op-ed, entitled, “Obama Is Right About Fox News,” published? The Wall Street Journal.

Here’s the ad: Here’s the blog posting in which Politico reporter Josh Kraushaar accuses Hoffman of “Republican dirty tricks.” That’s a bit humorous, really.  After all, how can it be a “Republican dirty trick” when the ad in question is being run by a Conservative Party candidate against the official Republican candidate in the race? Is Kraushaar suggesting that Hoffman is the real Republican and that Scozzafava is something else?  Like, I don’t know, a progressive ? The cognitive dissonance on display is astounding.

Only in San Francisco would a house with a tree that shoots fire be considered a future museum site . That is, if saw player extraordinaire and former hotelier Bob Pritikin has his way. According to a report in the San Francisco Chronicle , Pritikin, who often throws lavish fundraisers at his residence—sort of an adult’s fun house with kitschy memorabilia strewn throughout—is hoping to “pay the bills, make a nice contribution to the community and have some daytime visitors” by transforming his mansion into a museum.

Via Politico . One of the 20 finalists in health care video contest run by Barack Obama’s campaign arm features a mural of an America flag splattered with health care graffiti until it’s covered completely by black paint. According to the Organizing for American Web site, the 20 finalists in the “Health Reform Video Challenge” were chosen by a panel of “qualified” Democratic National Committee “employee judges.” Translation: America Haters Now that Obama is in office, desecrating the American flag is once again nouveau.

James Taranto: Who says President Obama hasn’t accomplished anything since taking office? To his Nobel Peace Prize and two Grammys, we can add a sports record, Politico reports: Obama has only been in office for just over nine months, but he’s already hit the links as much as President Bush did in over two years. CBS’ Mark Knoller–an unofficial documentarian and statistician of all things White House-related–wrote on his Twitter feed [Saturday] that, “Today – Obama ties Pres.
