Speaking of history — some months ago I wrote a piece about the ongoing efforts of right-wingers to redefine socialism. The title of my piece, written with tongue firmly in cheek was, That Socialist Pinko, Otto von Bismarck and included the observation that using the rights current broad definition of socialism: 18th and 19th century Prussia (which, as William Shirer pointed out in his history of the Third Reich, regarded its economy as an instrument of military policy) was socialist and therefore, according to 21st century rightwingers, a buncha commie leftists something that Im sure most 19th Century Prussians would vociferously deny.

I am currently on the 3rd day of a 4 day trip to western South Dakota in between the minutia otherwise known as my paying job and a couple of thoughts on the so called debate on healthcare have come to mind while reading through my RSS feeds. I have no idea on how the final version of the healthcare reform bill will look nor am I ready to say I am for the current legislation (it is over 1000 pages long afterall).
