The word of inspiration on the Inspire Me Thursday illustration blog is “pear”. The poor pear. The pear has always gotten a raw deal. It’s been treated as a second-class fruit. The red-headed stepchild of the produce world. New York City is “The Big Apple”, not the “Big Pear”. An endearing term for a loved one is “the apple of my eye”. The noble apple stands for heart-stirring patriotism. It’s as “American as apple pie”, for goodness sake! Car enthusiasts long to paint their ride “candy apple red”, ’cause that would make it cherry .

Guitarist John Mayer will have to hand over $25,000 to charity, after losing a bet over his criminal record . Mayer bet editors at TMZ.com they couldn’t track down a mug shot taken of him, following his arrest in 2001 for driving with a suspended license. He offered to donate the sum to a charity of site editor Harvey Levin’s choice – and will have to dig deep after resourceful journalists tracked down the incriminating snap.

It turns out that the updated OS has built-in malware protection, Adobe CS3 will work on it (but it won’t be supported), and the $29 upgrade disk will work for everyone-even though the EULA forbids using it unless you have Leopard.

It really is amazing to see how some people will decide that the best way to get some talk going about a new product is to start a small bashing session, and then come back with all the reasons why the bashing should not be. There is probably a name for this in the advertising world, but we, outside the holiest of advertising holies, are not privileged enough to know. Though I don’t use Apple products on a daily basis, I find they work well for me when I du, and that many of the annoyances of the Windows operating system are not there.
