We’ve got an interesting story today that firefighting jobs are highly sought in this bad economy. But I hope all those applicants realize that fighting fires has become the smallest part of their job. It would probably be more accurate (though less glamorous) to refer to them as “mobile medical technicians.” I was surprised to learn last year that 70 percent of all calls to Dallas Fire Rescue are for medical emergencies. Thanks to improved safety and construction, we just don’t have as many fires as we once did.

While, Singaporeans will be getting the new, faster iPhone 3GS this evening.Hong Kong has finally announced details on the new iPhone 3GS, which is going on sale tomorrow (July 10, 2009) at its major retail outlets.

Fast Company has a long article on Amazon, distribution, and the future of publishing. Jeff Bezos is trying to do to book publishers what Steve Jobs of Apple did to the music industry. With its iPod and iTunes Store, Apple carved out a largely virgin market so fast that it was able to wrest control of the digital-music distribution system and thus dictate what the record labels could do.
