Sam Diaz submits: There’s plenty of high-profile buzz coming from Sun Valley, Idaho, where media executives have gathered for the annual Allen & Co. conference, considered to be an exclusive event for the who’s who in the world of media and technology. Among the big questions capturing some attention: Will News Corp.’s ( NWS ) Rupert Murdoch broker a deal to buy Twitter? What does Bill Gates ( MSFT ) think of Google’s Chrome OS? Will Google ( GOOG ) CEO Eric Schmidt be recusing himself from more discussions on the Apple ( AAPL ) Board of Directors? And what did he know about Steve Jobs’ liver transplant? Of course, these are the questions being asked.

My newest favoritest bestest Apple product is now Time Machine. When I saw Steve Jobs introduce it at WWDC I thought it looked cool, but when I upgraded to Leopard, I was underwhelmed. It took up most of my LaCie Rugged drive, kept spinning away at odd times (it just bothers me when my computer [...]

After unveiling Chrome OS this week, Google CEO Eric Schmidt said he will consider recusing himself from Apple’s board. The Chrome OS launch adds another dimension to the areas in which Apple and Google compete with one another. In speaking to reporters at the Allen & Co. conference in Sun Valley, Idaho, Schmidt said, “I’ll talk to the Apple people. At the moment, there’s no issue.” Schmidt has already been taking leave from any Apple board meeting in which the iPhone was a hot topic.

Steve Bundred’s call for public sector pay freeze has provoked howls of outrage from public sector unions . Perhaps more serious, though, is the charge that such a measure would be counterproductive. Will Hutton argues that the government needs to wait until the economy improves before cuts are made. Richard Murphy goes further, accusing Bundred of economic illiteracy: whilst unemployment is rising (and it is) the only correct course of action by the government is to spend.

Like some proud uncle, CNet proclaimed to the work today that the iTunes App store has turned one. Congratulations to Apple in their implementation. It had its dramas. Since I’m not a parent, I’m not able to use analogies fitting of a developing potential. I detest diapers. I’m guessing there are closer to 1.2 to 1.5 billion downloads by now aided by the number of 3GS sold and about 60K apps. That was the easy part. It was the confusing and at times frustrating approval process for developers that has given bloggers a field day.
