California’s race for the Senate is easy for people all across the country to care about, but we’re also going to elect a new Governor next year. Term limited or not, Governor Schwarzenegger has burned his bridges with most of the party and likely will never seek elective office again. So it’s an open seat, and an open field for both parties this time around. Let’s start with the Democrats. It’s less depressing that way. The Democrats The Democrats have only held the Governor’s chair for five of the last twenty eight years.

I’ve been (slowly) working on a mortise-and-tenon screen door for the front of my Victorian house; I wrote a few days ago about the construction. Late on Friday afternoon, I routed a 1/2″ x 1/2″ rabbet in which to seat the screen inserts, and I put together the screen frames. The plan is to go into the office/shop tomorrow and paint the frames, then tack on the screening (I’ve no idea how to do that – I’m leaning toward wire staples, but if you have suggestions…).

The LinkUp IPhone app is getting rave reviews and record downloads. It has every conceiveable feature that you would want in an app for a job search engine. It’s probably be the best one available. People say. Like,..suppose you are driving to a job interview and drive by a company headquarters, you can type in the company name and see immediately if they have openings. You will see the openings that are only on the company’s website, even if you do not know the right URL, and since most of the jobs on company websites are never advertised, you will have a ‘leg up’ on other applicants.
