One of the favorite activities right now in social media (right there behind making fun of so-called social media experts) is spouting out large statistics and demographics revolving around the use of social media and the growth of social networks. You’ve probably seen these stats in the popular presentations, videos, or research findings that circulate the web faster than Steve Jobs rumors. From time to time I even fuel the fire myself . Let me be clear, there is nothing wrong with sharing these stats (assuming they are factually accurate).

In what could be an indication that a new tablet computer in imminent, Apple has rehired Michael Tchao, one if the original developers of Apple Newton. Michael Tchao was the brains behind Apple’s Newton personal digital assistant–a product which failed to gain users despite its hi-fi features way back in the 90s. Tchao rejoined Apple on Monday as vide president of product marketing. Earlier, he has served as general manager for Nike Techlab.

Jeremy “The Animal” Horowitz just posted a list of exciting new rumors about the iPad including the announce date – around January 19, just in time to relegate CES news to the dustbin of history – and that it will be available in May. The device is just awaiting Steve Jobs’ signature on the dotted line. There will be two devices, a 3G and a non-3G version and the resolution will be 720p or so on 10.7-inch screen. It will also run iPhone OS and have dedicated media systems as well as an ebook reader built in.
